We’re proud to share that Čuvar Guardians Cabernet Merlot Malbec has been named one of just six wines selected for the 2023 Gimblett Gravels® Annual Vintage Selection — a powerful recognition of both the wine and the people behind it.

Chosen through a blind tasting by Sydney-based Master of Wine Andrew Caillard, the annual selection celebrates the top expressions of the vintage from the acclaimed Gimblett Gravels Winegrowing District® in Hawke’s Bay. Caillard described this year’s wines as “extremely moving… wines of quality and impact.”

The 2023 vintage will be remembered for the challenges of Cyclone Gabrielle, which tested the region’s resilience. The free-draining soils of the Gimblett Gravels proved invaluable, and the dedication of local winegrowers ensured exceptional quality in the face of adversity.

“The 2023 Gimblett Gravels Selection highlights the resilience of the district while showing the creative strength of winemakers and the exceptional calibre of vineyard managers and their teams,” Caillard said.

Our inclusion in this prestigious lineup is a testament to the vineyard’s unique terroir and the craft and care that go into every bottle of Čuvar Guardians. With its structure, finesse, and signature power, this blend stands proudly alongside other icons of the region.

The six wines selected for the 2023 Gimblett Gravels® Annual Vintage Selection are:
