Karen Fistonich, Executive Director of Fistonich Family Vineyards

As part of a long-standing succession plan, Sir George’s daughter, Karen, has taken on the role of Executive Director at Fistonich Family Vineyards. Karen is stepping in to bring Sir George’s vision to life and continue his legacy, with a focus on crafting exceptional wines and growing existing brands.

Karen has been deeply involved in the Fistonich family businesses in leadership roles and has extensive experience in governance and management. After a successful career in banking, she served on the Board of Directors of Villa Maria Estate Ltd, the family wine business sold in 2021. From 2006 to 2019, she was the Board chairperson at Villa Maria.

Today, Karen collaborates with industry leaders as part of the Te Hono Movement, promoting sustainable growth in the primary sector. She is also involved with the New Zealand Global Women network, advocating for women in leadership. Recently, she joined the board of Family Business New Zealand, aiming to expand the network and support business families nationwide. Additionally, she is on the board of Waterfront Theatre Limited and is a trustee of the Waterfront Theatre Trust.

Karen is looking forward to working with the team at Čuvar Winery to create world class wines and carry on the Fistonich Family wine making legacy.
