Jo Ewing is one of New Zealand’s best botanical artists, creating intricately detailed artworks of New Zealand Flora . Be it native or introduced, her work is always exquisite.
When looking for someone to create a suite of pencil drawing for our Iris Collection – depicting the national flower of Croatia — the Iris Croatia, — it felt natural to approach Jo.
There was however a twist, we didn’t want a botanical rendition of the flowers – we wanted highly stylised pencil drawing that felt both contemporary and timeless.
With a little convincing, Jo took up our challenge and stepped out of her comfort zone developing a set of bespoke pencil drawing especially of us. We couldn’t be more delighted. Some of these drawings adorn our Iris labels while others are woven into fabric of our visual branding Cuvar brand. The imagery not only adds elegance to our brand but meaning. The Croatian Iris is a symbol of hope, valour and courage. All traits found at the heart of our Cuvar wine brand.
